February 1, 2009 - TCA is urging Turkish American residents of New Jersey to participate in an Action Alert for Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ).

Senator Menendez (D) of New Jersey , one of the states with the most populous Turkish/Turkic American community, has become a flag-bearer in the Senate for anti-Turkish actions and rhetoric. Lastly, he has pressured Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to recognize the Armenian allegations of genocide and to put priority on solving the Cyprus impasse, during the Secretary’s confirmation hearing, watched by millions in America and around the world. His comments reflected dismissal of Turkish American views on the Armenian issue, as well as the fact that Greek Cypriots prevented a solution on the island only a few years ago, while Turkish Cypriots supported it.

Senator Menendez has consistently lent his support to Greek and Armenian lobby initiatives and has displayed ignorance toward the existence of Turkish Americans and their interest in his state.

We are urging Turkish residents in New Jersey to put a stop to this and call on Senator Menendez to adopt a more even-handed approach to American foreign policy and toward his constituents, including Turkish Americans.
